LAG Vallis Colapis

LAG Vallis Colapis was founded in 2009 as an effort of rural towns and municipalities in the north of Karlovac County to implement EU LEADER program procedures for rural development. LAG operates in the area of seven rural Cities and Municipalities (Duga Resa, Ozalj, Draganić, Kamanje, Netretić, Ribnik, Žakanje).

It was founded as a non profit organization whose founders are: municipalities, local public institutions such as schools, representatives of the local business sector and non profit organizations from this rural area.

In the beginning of 2011 LAG Vallis Colapis opened an office in the City of Ozalj. Milan Medić is the office manager, and we also employ volunteer Zrinka Blagaić, whose salary is financed thru a measure of Croatian Employment Service.

LAG Vallis Colapis covers an area of 370 km2, and has 30,105 inhabitants. Our association has, since 2009, worked on rural development projects as local partner of Centre for Civil Initiatives (CCI), Croatian Rural Development Network (HMRR) and Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development. So far, we worked on promoting sustainable development and increasing the quality of life in rural communities.

The LAG area is extremely rich with natural beauties – three rivers run thru it (Kupa, Mrežnica and Dobra), and all three of them are suitable for rafting and canoeing, and simply for enjoying walks, mountaineering or swimming in the summer. Also, throughout the history a lot of great people lived in the area of LAG Vallis Colapis (families Zrinski and Frankopan, painter Slava Raškaj). This is an area traditionally rich with small businesses and crafts.

LAG Vallis Colapis wishes to work on pointing out the advantages that this rural area already has as a place to live, and to develop its tourist and economic potentials.
