Local action group (LAG) Gorski kotar was formed in the mid 2008 within the project "Sustainable future for rural areasin Croatia". LAG was registered as an association on 23rd February 2009. Members come from all parts of Gorski kotar, different social groups and sectors. LAG Gorski Kotar has signed Agreement of cooperation with all local governments with purpose of improving the quality of life in the area.Members of LAG Gorski kotar made "Elementary analysis of the area" and "Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development of Gorski kotar. Both documents were created with the help of experts during the implementation of the project "Sustainable development of rural areas in Croatia".
According to members of the LAG their "common desire is for Gorski kotar to unite the interests of people of all nine local governments and to perform together beyond its borders." Furthermore they want to "Prosper on knowledge, skills and abilities of people of Gorski kotar, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and natural conditions that are considered to be exceptional wealth."
So far LAG has carried out a number of smaller projects:
- Creating Info-points, small wooden houses with logo of a LAG-Gorski kotar. Inside the house there are promotional materials of local governments of Gorski Kotar.
- Action of cleaning several water sources in the village Tići near Moravica
- Photo contest for the "Goranski calendar 2010"
